FTCH AFTCH Clubmeads Steel Magnolia

Owned and Handled by Sharon van der Lee

I had the pleasure of watching Stu Mead handle Maggie's mom (Duffglenn's Sparks Will Fly) to the High Point Canadian Junior dog in the summer of 1993. I was impressed with her consistency and her talent in the water. The following summer, Diana was talking to my husband John about breeding 'Sparky'. John was sure I'd want a pup and the fact that she was being bred to 'Ebonstar Lean Mac' made it all the better. Maggie was the first pick out of six females.

She didn't have the greatest birthday for Junior (Mar 22, 95), but I thought we'd try to have some fun anyway. The first Junior she ran at 13 months, she took a third place! That summer, she accumulated 29.5 Canadian Junior points to go number four Junior dog in Canada at only 18 months of age.

The following winter, John and I headed south with the dogs to escape some of the snow and cold in Alberta. We ran some American Derbies with Maggie in California and Arizona. She only took six trials to make the 1997 U.S. Derby list with a win and two seconds.

After her Junior/Derby year, Maggie got out of Qualifying fast (4 trials) with back to back wins at 27 months. Two months later, she finished her first Amateur-All Age and we knew there were bigger and better things to come.

In 1998, she got some all-age placings and was bred in the late summer. Her first National was spent laying on the front seat of the truck, one week from whelping.

In 1999, Maggie has been running very consistently. She won three Opens as well as other placings and CM's and finished both her titles. She was top Open female in Canada. She also went 9 series at the Canadian National Amateur, the first National she’s run.

To us, Maggie is a very special dog as she combines a super field trial talent with a great personality and sense of humor. Running a lot of trials does not erode her training program and she seems to do better on the tougher tests. Like her mom, she excels in the water.

I look forward to many years with her and thank the Mead's for breeding such a wonderful animal.

Sharon
