Clubmeads Autumn Breeze CDX

Garry went to Edmonton in August of 1997 to pick Breeze from a promising litter we had talked to Stu and Diana about. I was away in Scotland on sabbatical and this was supposed to be Garry's new Field Trial prospect. We had intended to get a male, but Garry could not resist the intense little female who consistently wrestled the pigeon away from the other puppies. Breeze was a special pup from the beginning. She was very bright and learned everything quickly and effortlessly. She excelled in Obedience and Agility training and, of course, she loved her birds. Her first winter was a mild one, and she went to work with me every day where I did her early yard work during lunch breaks. It quickly became evident that she was a very talented dog with great natural lining ability. It also became clear that she and I were hopelessly bonded and Garry was going to have to find another dog. Breeze's first trial year was an exciting one. She accumulated 35 Canadian Junior points, to go number 3 Junior Dog in Canada for 1998. In early August in Edmonton, at 14 months of age she won a Derby and a Qualifying stake. She won another Qualifying 3 weeks later and started playing in the Open. She also completed a few Senior Hunt tests and a Master Hunt test that summer. We sent her with Doug Grant for the winter in order to keep her fit and give her the opportunity to learn some of the concepts she would need to know for the big dog tests in her future. He did a great job with her and she came back even more confident and happy to work. Doug ran Breeze in the Regina trial where she got a Derby win and second and an Open second. The following weekend I ran her in Saskatoon and we got a Derby win and a third and another Open second - all of this before her second birthday. She finished up her Derby eligibility in early June, with 25 points for the year (number 6 Junior Dog in Canada for 1999) and a total of 60 career Derby points. Work schedules and a mid-summer move meant that we did very limited trialing for the rest of the summer. Breeze entered a few Opens and was usually still playing at the end of the day, collecting green ribbons. In September we won an Amateur at the Delta Marsh Retriever Club trial. Breeze went to train with her buddy Doug Grant for the winter again, and we are looking forward to the 2000 trial season and many future successes.
